What has happened to Christmas, and to my Country?

What has happened to Christmas, and to my Country?

I was listenning to the news on Friday, and heard this story on the Surgeon General of the United States, at Children's Hospital in Boston, staing that Santa, needed to slim down, as he was not a good role model for children, because he is fat!

What the Hell is going on?

THis story was followed by the new rules being taught to dept. store santas, at Santa University;
No scooping up kids and putting them in your lap.
Keep your hands in sight at all times
No initating of conversation with kids
NO WISHING MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
Only Happy holidays, or seasons greetings.

This country was founded upon the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. Since when do the angry, irate, few get to dictate to the many? Happy Holidays???? So what holiday would you go to see Santa in celebration of? Chinese New Year? No, it is ridiculous to sweep christmas under the rug to satisfy the whims of the politically correct few! Their desires be damned! The majority of people in this country celebrate christmas, and the beauty of this country is, that if you don't wish to celebrate it, you don't have to! But you do not get to force that desire on those who DO wish to celebrate Christmas!

I am sick and tired of seeing the screaming children of political correctness forcing the rest of us to bow and scrape to their desires, while refusing to acknowledge that civil society has a few demands to place upon them as well., After all, Fair is fair!

If two men wish to go out with each other, that is their right, and It doesn't affect me, so I dont care what they do, but when the activists stand up and tell me how I HAVE to think about it, THAT IS WRONG!

If someone wishes to use abortion as a method of birth control, because they are too lazy or too stupid to keep their legs closed, or use a condom, that is their choice, but dont tell me that I have to ACCEPT that, and can not think that it is morally wrong.

If I choose to think that the job of a school is to educate! Not to assess my child feelings, how his home life is, whether or not his parents fight, drink, spank, or keep guns in the house, THAT IS MY RIGHT!

These very simpletons who preach tolerence are the most intolerant people on the face of the Earth! Do not be so quick to rob someone else of their right to Freedom of Speech, lest you find the day when someone robs you of yours!

If I wish to celebrate Christmas that is my right, and who are you to tell me that I can't wish you a merry christmas, because it offends you, how about you take the wish in the vein in which it is offerred and simply say thank you.

Thank you for putting up with my rant, and Merry Christmas!

or to the politically correct crowd... Happy Christmahanakwanzica! After all dont want to leave anyone out.

I can't agree more with your "rant" ! Where are we going is the thing . How we stop this from going in its direction starts here at home in our communities at the local level. I say this because we send some truly sell out politicians to the congress and senate from here where we are at the local level. I can not give you praise enough in your calling on the state to investigate the problems in Atkinson. What is best for Atkinson is a five member BoS and not three. As some else asked earlier in another blog keep your town up to date about the "foot dragging agencies" you contacted.

I agree with you. But have you heard this one? I heard on the radio today that several Malls around the country are asking the santas to say HA HA instead of HO HO....just made my blood boil...their reason....HA HA isn't as frightening as HO HO...give me a break...I have heard it all

The desire for "political correctness" makes no sense to me. I think it is a subtle form of mass hysteria. Now it is being manipulated by the politicians. Think about this for a minute. You consistently hear slick Jack Sapia dodge an issue when he says, "It's time to move on.....we should just move on....or..we did the right thing (head nodding yes)". These little sound bytes play right to the PC crowd. And the PC crowd is responding by saying, "yes...we should all just get along...time to move on, Jack's right.....Please pass the Kool-Aid."

Because we don't want to appear confrontational and question Jack on a topic he certainly doesn't want to talk about. It is far more important we all get along than get to truth of an issue because the truth can be so....so.....uncomfortable.

This is called Groupthink. Defined: Groupthink is a type of thought exhibited by group members who try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing, and evaluating ideas. During Groupthink, members of the group avoid promoting viewpoints outside the comfort zone of consensus thinking. A variety of motives for this may exist such as a desire to avoid being seen as foolish, or a desire to avoid embarrassing or angering other members of the group. Groupthink may cause groups to make hasty, irrational decisions, where individual doubts are set aside, for fear of upsetting the group’s balance.

This is what is wrong with Atkinson. Too much Groupthink and too much political correctness. The collective is burying their heads in the sand because the idea that Atkinson is NOT a bucolic, white-churched, cute as a button NH town is....just too unpleasant to consider.

The net result is you have Selectmen unwilling to make the tough decisions to cut budgets, unwilling to make tough decisions about employees they oversee and are responsible for, and permit an over zealous staff to make changes on how budgets are disclosed to the public - to the public's detriment.

But it is more important for us to be politically correct. God forbid someone be "rude" and question our town on issues about how they spend our tax dollars, (uh-oh, I hope I didn't offend anyone using that "G" word). Why don't you just sign a blank check when you send in your tax payment.

Tell you what, since you enjoy paying tax bills so much, I'll send you mine and you can pay that one, too. Imagine how fun it would be. And get this - it would be politically correct, too, because then we would both win.

Can someone please explain to me how censoring and prosecuting public expression of faith is in support of freedom?
My wife is a public school teacher. The school department said that schools should try to provide an inclusive celebration for the "holiday" season. My wife's principal chickened out. She was so concerned with leaving a single student out that she banned all celebration of any holiday. My wife made the "mistake" of telling me. I told a friend on the parent council. Before long my wife was got called into the principal's office where she was shown pictures and told that the principal does celebrate Christmas. I caught hell that night.
Now the school is celebrating "Winter Solstice." This is a pagan and Wiccan religious holiday, but the irony seems to be lost on the bureaucrats.
By now everyone has heard about the liberal parents in Winchester who, rather than just not signing the permission slip for the play decided they needed to force the school to cancel the trip because they found a play about Santa "offensive." Or maybe it was that an old man faced a commitment hearing.
It has been decades since being a "liberal" meant one fought for individual liberty. Today, being a liberal means one is only pro-choice so long as the rest of us make choices they approve of. When we don't, they try to outlaw the choices we make.
Hate Crime laws seek to criminalize reading the gospel, as has been done already in Canada and Europe.
We are seeing more of this every day.
Freedom of religion and freedom from religion can not co-exist. Liberals seek the latter and hate the former almost as much as they hate the second amendment.

On the HA HA HA thing. It has nothing to do with scaring the kids.
It is that in hip hop lingo, "ho" is short for whore or prostitute.
This started years ago with a cartoon making fun of political correctness. A single frame. Santa in the witness box. Prosecutor yelling at Santa, "did you not harass this woman by calling her a Ho, not once, but three times!"

And all this time I thought it was Imus talking about blacks calling each other "ho" and it was ok! Then the interpetation I had heard was that he ,Imus, being white it was not right to say that . I'm glad Santa isn't just a white man as depicted when seen but everyones man regardless of color . Where oh where does this crap political correctness stop ?

Political correctness is the loss of individual freedoms via the side door. Santas' girth is another attack on the latest target group, the overweight. Those who would tell us all have figured they've won the battle against smokers and now can more directly aim their sights on those dreadful obese people. I wonder who is going to get targeted after the fat-folks are on the run. I'm thinking those wasteful cretins in anything powered with more than four cylinders - - -

The whole concept of political correctness was developed in the Communist Soviet Union under that wonderful guy, Lenin and his kindred spirit Stalin. It was introduced into the US by his "useful idiots" in the Communist Party USA, AKA CPUSA, back in the 50's.
Political correctness has always been about censorship and re-education.

A voice of compassion, an example of fairness and reasonable government.

One who believes in the strength and comfort you, your children and your family can draw from good government leadership.

A person who knows Atkinson is our home -- our most important possession that must be preserved and protected through fair taxes and sound community planning and where our children must be safe to grow to become a new generation of leaders.

One who knows that the citizens of Atkinson are all neighbors with her leadership to be dedicated and responsive to all.

One who believes that when those from Atkinson have served our nation and honors are deserved, those honors must be given.

In Valerie Tobin, we now have a leader we know we can entrust with these responsibilities because they are part of her character.

It is our honor to endorse Valerie for election to Atkinson’s Board of Selectmen.

"I offer nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments, and common sense . . ." [TP, 1776]

We take no small measure of umbrage at such a hostile official act against this BLOG’s patron. Therefore, a timely Editorial comment is both appropriate and necessary.

Discussion of Atkinson’s financial direction, from any viewpoint, is fundamental and encouraged and we will always attempt to limit and correct errors.

However, Righteous indignation towards purported error of such inconsequential nature is not appropriate.

The ENTIRE car deal is problematic. If it was caused by poor judgement, improper exercise of authority, neglect or mistake or even specious reasoning, this will never trump the facts that the entire questionable transaction started and ended within a very small circle of confidants.

We find the entire circumstances surrounding the disposition of the police Cruiser highly irregular at the least and the "explanations" somewhat trifling and exhaustive of our intellect.

Mr. Consentino: It’s time to go. Being Chief of Atkinson’s Police Department is NOT a birthright. That is a fabled legend of yesteryear.

Historically in Atkinson, police chief appointments were made "under the hand of the selectmen" for terms of one year at a time, as was also the case in the beginning of Mr. Consentino’s assorted and discontinuous stream of appointments to this position.

Your only remaining credential established on a claim of indispensability has faded.

So time is neigh. Plan a graceful exit, Clean out your desk, Accept the gratitude and tearful sentiments from some. We plan no editorial recriminations. It is time. Thank you for your service, We wish you a long and happy retirement. Bon Voyage.

LETTER

"To All Atkinson Residents,

I am writing to ask for your help. A member of the Atkinson Police Department needs our help. I am here to ask for your help in Corporal John Lapham's fight for his life. As you are aware, John has been diagnosed with Leukemia. He has been once again hospitalized with an infection that is threatening his life. He is one of the bravest people that I have ever met. He has never asked of anything from the residents of the town. Now is our chance to step up and help both him and his family out. As everyone is aware John has been out of work for a few months. His family has been busy helping John to get better. He needs our help, and I am hoping that this town can step up to the plate and help. From the moment that I met John, I have admired him. He does alot, but never asks for anything in return. He has helped so many people in this town. I for one am one of those people. Please help him.

There is a fund set-up in his name at TDBanknorth in Plaistow. Any amount will help John, while he is out of work. It would be great if this town could help ease a burden off his wife.

Thank You

Also if anyone would like to send a card, please address it to:

John Lapham
