Pardon me as I usually have an idea of what is going on. Anon 5:42 and Publius alike. I have no idea what you are referring to. I also have no idea who the heck Mr. Weymouth is. I guess I am not up on this particular debacle.
Apparently, The Library Trustees are engaging the services of our Town Maintenance manager as a "clerk of the works" for the library construction project.
The question is, did the trustees decide on their own to do this, or was it suggested by one or more selectmen, after all, they have been angling to oversee, and take control of this project from the start.
Shouldn't Atkinson have to have a "qualified" contractor to oversee this project. With any other commercial construction, that has to be the case or the town will not issue permits.
Fred Childs and Chuck Early shared the job of Clerk of the Works for the fire station. They did an excellent job, on the site confering with Tom Harmon, the project manager, each day, monitoring the pouring of cement, etc. It can be a challenging job. Don't sell Dave Weymouth short. He has sharp eyes and is very attentive to detail.
The trustees did consider more than one person for the position. I'm the one who suggested that they consider Dave Weymouth. In his capacity as Town Maintenance Supervisor, Dave is doing an outstanding job of taking care of the current library building, and the thinking was that as clerk of the works, he'll be familiar with the new building from the ground up, which should help him take care of it more effectively once it's up and running.
Another new library? I thought the town was only supposed to do one every 50 to 70 years. The current library was new when I was in High School. I still remember going to the Kimball library that no longer exists. It was two or three small rooms. No study spaces. No computers. But it has a certain charm. I have been to many university libraries. They are too big an impersonal. I have not been in a library in over a decade. That might change if my kids get research assignments that require a ride to the library. I'm sure the good people have done their research to be sure they were not just building a white elephant.

No group this corrupt can be trusted.
I believe Fred Childs was clerk of the works for the town garage and the fire station. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I suspest that MR. Weymouth is better than Fred, but that is not the issue.

Only 1 aisle to exit the seating, doesn't meet code. Exit aisles needed by both walls.

I understand that emergency lighting was an after thought, and the outside lighting made it impossible to see to walk.
