Attendance is again low at deliberative session. I wish I could be there but unfortunately I have a prior commitment. I will watch the remainder on cable and will report later. For those of you who can make it, I urge you to attend. Arrive late, but arrive.
Ah Deliberative Session.....the opportunity for the residents to deliberate. Not this year. This year it was the one man Jack show. Every warrant received a personal commentary by lone Selectman, and I use the word Selectman loosely, Jack Sapia. Too many times Mr. Sapia was the one to stop further debate on a warrant article. Of course these were the warrants he had a "personal" interest in. Moderator Frank Polito went so far as to make a statement during the session that although ANYONE could move to stop further debate it was getting out of hand. Hmmmm wonder if Mr. Wonderful got the message. Somehow this seems terribly inappropriate. Mr. Sapia had the opportunity all during budget season (3-4 months worth) of Selectmen's meetings to express his personal opinion and push for the warrants he "approved" of. Although this too is inappropriate of an elected official Mr. Sapia seems to hear a much different drummer than "best interest of the town" I guess it is best interest of Jack. The town will be much better served when his term is up.
ReplyDeleteAnd did anyone else notice that Jumpin Jack's fellow selectmen were getting annoyed. At one point, which JJ was pontificating, Mr. Sullivan asked the Moderator to please get back to discussion of the issue.
ReplyDeleteNote to Moderator Polito... Please inform the selectmen, at least the on with a terminal case of verbal diahrrea, that deliberative session is not the selectmen's meeting! It is the PEOPLE'S Meeting under the authority of the Moderator! Also maybe he could get up out of his seat and descend from on high to the floor with the rest of us rabble and speak form the peoples mike to voice his personal opinions, AFTER HE HAS WAITED HIS TURN IN LINE AND BEEN RECOGNIZED BY THE MODERATOR!!!
