Notice the Picture of the Proposed Tower

This is the Tower company's rendering of what a tower would look like behind the salt shed in the center of town. This is not hype, or hysterical unfounded objections. This is the actual TOWER Company's Idea of what a 90' tower would look like! Lt. Baldwin is proposing a 180' tower! So the finished product would be DOUBLE THE HEIGHT of this monstrosity!

NOTICE THE PICTURE IN THE TOP RIGHT OF THE BLOG!

Is this what you want in the center of town?
Do we need this in the center of town?
Where is the data or evidence that this monstrosity is absolutely necesary?
Do we know?
Why has this been pushed on us so hard, so fast?
Why was there no communications problem in 2004 when the town was offerred the opportunity to buy the hog hill tower?

We need and deserve the answers to these questions, before we buy. Lets pass the study and get the answers.

BTW, Do the geometry! The salt shed is 24' at it's peak. the doors are 17', this means the picture of the tower is only 80-90' at most! Even at half the proposed height it is an abomination!

  1. That is awful! We need to see if there is somewhere else this can go!

  2. NOT IN MY BACKYARD!

Mr. Brown said at town meeting that there were other options, lets hear them!

  3. There are other options. Vote for the warrant article which proposes a study (am unsure now what number warrant article that is as in our laughably qualified town administrators' most professional manner most have been moved around, changed and scattered to the wind.)

In any event, after thorough study and recommendations by qualified professionals the town and let me repeat that the TOWN will make a decision on moving forward.

  4. Somewhere in this blog, there is an article noting that Mr. Sapia is anxious to have periodic meetings with all department heads next year, when he is chairman. There is also a response from Mark Acciard explaining why the Budget Committee's presence at these meetings would be fruitless, according to State Law.

Did anyone notice, at Monday's Meeting, how lavishly Mr. Sapia praised Planning Board Chairman Sue Killam for coming in to discuss their problems?

Somewhere else in this blog, questions have been raised as to how much crime there is in Atkinson.

Did anyone else notice the Chief's EXTENSIVE report on the crime which occurred in February?

My point is . they're reading. Maybe they'll learn something!

  5. YOU'RE RIGHT!!!

I had my son do the math(he is a mathematician) and he said if the building is 24' than the tower in the picture is only 86' tall!

And the one they want to put there is 100' HIGHER? NO WAY!!!

Why won't our selectmen check into what these people are saying to find out if it is true?

What do we elect these guys for?

We need to throw the bums out, starting with Childs, then Sapia, and if Sullivan won't be objective, then he has to go as well!

Put the Town's best interests before yor friends and sponsors!

  6. I saw Lt. Baldwin and Selectman Sapia tell the town this erection would cost the town nothing. That was a lie.
I saw Budget Comitee Chairman Acciard ask them where the money would come from to put the equipment on the tower, and they said the cell company, and it would cost nothing, it was all in how they structure the deal. That was in Dec. at a selectmen's meeting.
At deliberative session, I saw them try to pull the same lies. and I saw Mr. Acciard ask Mr. Brown the same question "Who is going to front the $500,000 for equipment on the tower, and he admitted, that the town would have to front at least $300,000 of the cost.
These people have lied to us, They cant even tell us what it will cost us, and they want us to vote for it?
STUDY IT! so we can all know the truth.

  7. I think the picture of the cell tower on the blog home page is terrible but I do think that some towers are much more attractive than the one shown.

I’ve never understood the fascination some people have with the town center; it’s just a wide spot in the road. The recent efforts to improve the town center are very nice and were tastefully done but it’s like putting lipstick on a pig, you need something good to start with.

I would like to see a water tower (like Plaistow has) built in its place with the necessary communications equipment on top. We would then have some future capability for town water and sewer as well as the much touted public safety. The industrial look is always in.

  8. Please notice that this is the rendering by THE TOWER COMPANY. This is what an 80-90 foot tower will look like! Imagine a 180' tower!

would like to venture an answer to your "wide spot in the road" comment.

I grew up in Atkinson, Graduated Timberlane and went into the USAF, where I served for 7 years, then was attached to the USAF for another 10.5 years, I have been to 48 states and 19 countries courtesy of the Air Force, but I always knew I would settle in Atkinson, and for that reason it always remained my home of record. The town center is much more than a wide spot in the road. It is a focal point of our town. It is a face that we present to the world. It is quaint, with a Norman Rockwellian quality about it. It symbolizes the character of our town. With the fire station as the backdrop, and the Village Store as the frame, our town center is part of why our town is a desirable place to live and raise our kids.

Thank you for listening to me bloviate. LOL

  10. Mr. Acciard-

I hope my "wide spot in the road" comment did not offend you. Having grown up in the town, you may be a little to close to the picture.

I also have been in most states and more countries than I care to remember with both military and business obligations. I grew up in distant large city but have been in town for 20+ years.

“Rockwellian quality about it”, give me a break, maybe if it was in a Fellini movie. (ha ha)

On a more personal note, I’ve grown to respect and admire your behavior in the face of adversity and mud slinging. You will be getting my vote.
